Here in this interview Dr. Kokayi explains what holistic integrative medicine is and how this type of medicine has been defined. What is holistic integrative medicine? Well, holistic was a catch-all phrase because people didn't know what to say. Holistic was just a doctor that was doing something different. Maybe the doctor was using herbs, maybe the doctor was recommending some nutritional therapies, but what's happened, then that begun to unfold. Then you have complementary and alternative medicine. Meaning it was gaining some more respect and people saw it was complementing. They will use essential oils with people doing chemotherapy, but they would use some other therapies with it. That was complementary and alternative. What was complementary, too, was mainstream medicine. Then you have integrative medicine. In integrative medicine, allopathic or mainstream medicine doesn't necessarily have to be the big dome. Meaning that if you're integrating something, you might rely more on nutrition, you might rely on herbal medicine, you might rely more on homeopathy or other disciplines because when you integrate these things, you find that these other disciplines can actually play a stronger role in helping the person to regain health. That's different. Then functional medicine-- What's happened now, everybody realize if you get sick, you're screwed. You don't want to end up in someone's ER. Now, we have the ideal functional medicine where functional and preventive go together. We're looking at problems and saying how this a dysfunction in the body in terms of what is supposed to do. There might be problems with the body ecology. There might be problems with your leaky gut, in your intestines. There might be problems with the flow of energy in your body, but it's a functional system. There are different ways to actually measure that. There's so many different kinds of testing that came up to look at detox pathways. Just to look at the quality of your sputum to see how much it had changed in terms of saline morphology and stuff. In functional medicine, you get to try and engage the body's function in real time as opposed to just taking a snapshot with any one test. You can do assessments to actually look at neuro-transmitted balance, things like that. #holisticintegrativemedicine #holisticmedicine #kamaukokayimd Holistic Integrative Medicine Santa Monica CA - Kamau Kokayi, MD - Call (310) 499-2195 Learn more about holistic integrative medicine and the holistic care that Dr. Kokayi provides for patients from the Santa Monica area by visiting the practice website or by calling the office during business hours at (310) 499-2195.

In this video interview Dr. Kokayi explains his role and purpose as a physician and holistic medical doctor. What is the difference between a quantitative and qualitative medical focus when treating patients? In my understanding, as I mentioned earlier in that, we are energetic beings, we are spiritual beings having human experience. These bodies have shelf lives. As a physician, what I'm really trying to do is to maximize your body's function so that you can learn your lessons and deliver your gifts while you're here. Whatever you're here to do to improve upon in terms of the human condition and just improve your own understanding of reality, that's what I'm here to do. When you come with a problem, the question is, did your problem just start in the physical realm or did it start in a non-physical place, with an idea that went wrong, with a relationship that caused some kind of disappointment? Did something happen that set a ripple of vibration in place that then got aggravated by habits like diet then created layers of dysfunction leading to layers of pathology? If we only treat at the level of pathology, then how do we ever get back to establishing wellness? Level of pathology meaning that, an inflammation is a normal part of healing, but what happens when inflammation gets stuck, where all of a sudden inflammation becomes crying, where inflammation is contributed to by the body attacking its own tissue, where inflammation causes degeneration of cells that then leads to cancer. Where did the problem actually start? When we actually address the organizing intelligence of the body, is the organizing intelligence solely a biochemical phenomena or is it something that can be affected by the quality of your thought, the types of emotions that you lend yourself to, the type of habits that you habituate. What I'm saying is that when you look at the body vibrationally in a different levels of energy matter organization, when you find a ripple at the physical level, you're going to find a ripple in kind at another level that's not necessarily the physical body, but you're going to find it on some other level. That other level might be through conversation and hearing where they're stuck in a relationship or hearing how they're stuck in a job or how other people actually perceive them or I might pick that up in terms of kinesiology and finding a chakra or energetic system that's weak. Then when I talk about the qualities of that point or that system, they say, "Oh, yes. I'm having this difficulty in this area." There's a space a lot of us we're not self-aware. We just keep plodding along experiencing the same problem. Dr. Kokayi in this video explains what makes a holistic doctor different from a traditional western trained doctor. What do we mean when we say that a doctor is a holistic doctor? Holistic is a wastebasket term that started at a point where there were people that realized there were doctors that were doing something different than just prescribing drugs. These are called holistic doctors, and that term morphed into holistic medicine. Then there was complementary medicine and alternative medicine. Then there was integrative medicine, and then there was functional medicine, then there's bio-energetic. If we go back to the holistic doctor, the word doesn't mean anything until you find out well what are the disciplines that the doctor uses. We can all say that we're holistic because we sit down and hear a person's story, but the question is how do we use that story? What's our analysis and understanding of it that allows us to interface with the person therapeutically? Regular doctors generally don't do the holistic piece because they don't have any paradigm or framework to use that, other than giving advice. Unless you're a trained therapist, you really can't use this additional mental, emotional information. Let alone, understanding how that interfaces with the pathology can generate pathology can modify pathology and ultimately if you can work with it, you can achieve a real and lasting cure for people. When you're restoring them, you are aligning all the energetic bodies in a way that re-establishes their health at an optimal level. Via https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQT1ZNk_hfv-aCQZK2lYntA/videos Acupuncturist Santa Monica CA - https://www.healinghealthservices.com/holistic-medicine-santa-monica-ca/ Best Acupuncturist Santa Monica CA Kamau Kokayi, MD - Call (310) 499-2195 I have been doing acupuncture since 1979. I have gone through all kind of different trainings with acupuncture. It is just a part of me at this point. That's a second nature in terms of what to do, how to do it. I never got too much into the electroacupuncture because in my mind, acupuncture was really just a tool to transmit my energy. I locate acupuncture points on acupuncture map. There are points, they are lined up. I actually feel for the point. It's like no, this is the spot that needs to go because an acupuncture point is more like a low side, there's a general local that it needs to go. It is wrong to feel the actually palpate to feel exactly where the needle actually goes. Acupuncture can be used in a lot of different ways and by thinking about how I use it. As people coming in and sharing their problems, I'm thinking about what modalities of therapies can I use with them. Right off, if anybody has any kind of muscolo-skeletal problem, I'm thinking about acupuncture. Usually I'll use acupuncture after I've done some kind of manipulation. I've done something, with respect to the muscle, with respect to the joint and now I want to use acupuncture to lock in that change, to lock in whatever subluxation in the spine was corrected. To lock in whatever-- I corrected trigger points and now I want to keep the flow of energy smooth in the areas so it's less likely to come back. I use acupuncture as an accessory to the problems musculo-skeletal. I've demonstrated from kinesiology that you really have an organ weakness. Your liver keeps showing up that it's not doing what it needs to do. I can do acupuncture specifically to help with the bio-energetics of the liver. Acupuncture will come up a lot in terms of organs, it's going to be the lungs. Right along the thoracic spine, a spinal muscles, sends a sympathetic chain, which helps to regulate bronchial dilatation and just your overall breathing. If I stimulate those muscles that can have a profound effect if I do acupuncture along the paraspinal muscles or what I call the shoe points along the forensic and lumbar spine. I use it to strengthen. Let's say there's an accumulation of energy or blockage, you're having a one-sided migraine headache, I might palpitate and find that the origin of that if I think about the meridians, they are run through the head. One sided, I'm going to think about a triple [unintelligible 00:20:41] meridian, I am going to think about gallbladder. Then what I'll do then is use a distal point in the meridian, I might find that a point over your liver is particularly tender. When I do the acupuncture point there, all of a sudden, that congestion begins to drain. I use it in that way to actually drain areas where there's an accumulation. I use it for tonification, I use it, that would be call for a sedation and then I use it as an accessory tool and help me address muscular skeletal conditions and other problems.
